About Me…

Debbie Thom MSW, RCSW I have been in the social services profession since 1992. I have been employed in a variety of social service agencies providing crisis counselling, family support, trauma, addiction and adoption counselling. My experience is in working with individuals, couples, and families as well as with adolescents and seniors. My private practice has been in operation since the year 2000 in Kamloops, BC.

I completed my Bachelor of Social Work through the University of Calgary in 1992. My Masters of Social Work with a focus in clinical counselling through the University of Calgary was completed in 1996. I am a Registered Clinical Social Worker with the British Columbia College of Social Workers (RCSW registration #03187). I am also a member of the British Columbia Association of Social Workers, (BCASW membership # 1001945).

To qualify to become an RCSW the following minimum requirements must be met:

Graduation with a Master’s of Social Work degree from an accredited and approved university

Approved coursework in the areas of counselling / psychotherapy, human development, and mental health

3000 hours of post-graduate supervised clinical practice

Passing a comprehensive North American clinical board exam

I believe in continuous learning and actively participate in professional development. In order to maintain my RCSW registration with the BCCSW a minimum of 40 hours of continuing professional development must be completed per year.
